Like many of my patients, my first experience with Chiropractic
came when I had pain, and could not tolerate it any longer. I
was only 19 years old and began suffering from back pain and
tingling off and on for two years because of a high school
football injury. Medical doctors had prescribed anti-inflammatory
and pain medications, but the relief was only temporary. Nineteen
was too young to be in pain and restricted from my active lifestyle,
so when a friend recommended I visit his chiropractor, I had
nothing to loose and only pain relief to gain.
After my first visit with the doctor, I realized as many of my patients
do after their first visit, that I had Scoliosis. Subluxations
had caused the Scoliosis and were causing the pain and tingling. After
one month of treatment, I was pain free. This result
I had expected. Chiropractors heal "bad backs" and
my back pain was gone. What was truly amazing and what
changed my life forever was that the severe allergies and asthma
that I had suffered from my entire life had improved 80 - 90%. I
could breath! For the first time in my life I was no
longer reliant on an inhaler and pills that still didn't remedy
all of my symptoms. Chiropractic had removed the Subluxations
that had obliviously been there my entire life and helped my
body cure itself of my allergies and asthma. After one
year of my initial treatment, my Scoliosis could no longer
be visualized on x-ray and I was a healthier person by far. Though
I still suffer from seasonal allergies about two weeks out
of the year, I am no longer in need of drugs to keep
me breathing as I had been for my 19 years before chiropractic.
Weekly chiropractic adjustments and daily herbal supplements
quickly push me through the allergy season and helps to maintain
my health and active lifestyle.
I was very fortunate that the very first chiropractor I visited
was a health through chiropractic doctor and not just
a "quick fix" doctor. He trained me about chiropractic
and inspired me to change my entire future. Within six
months of my first adjustment, I had changed my major and was
working towards acceptance to Chiropractic College. During
my internship and residency I learned more about chiropractic
from my doctor, mentor, and teacher over the months I worked
in his clinic.
As I write this testimonial, I realize that I need to find that
friend who encouraged me to visit his chiropractor twelve years
ago and truly thank him. Though he did not understand the
immensity of his referral, he saved my life; he saved my wife's
life and he saved my children's lives. To think of how
my family's life has been so blessed because of chiropractic
is to see what a blessing it is to share chiropractic. His
encouragement for me to visit his chiropractor, and that doctor
who then trained me and encouraged me to become a chiropractor,
has done so much good for so many people. I think every
patient's life I have changed, made better, saved should be thankful
to my old friend too. Please make sure to thank the person
who introduced you to chiropractic. They may have saved
your life or way of life in ways you may never know.
Chiropractically Yours,
Dr. Mike Lacerda D.C.
